Treatment for Oily Hair
The key to controling oily hair is to remove the sebum adequately from the scalp.
Many persons mistakenly think that hair shampoo is to wash the hair and not the scalp. Actually, shampoo is designed to clean the scalp and beautify the hair. Thus, the first recommendation is to shampoo the scalp. Women with long hair should apply the shampoo to the scalp without piling the hair on top, and use their fingers to vigorously massage the scalp.
Excessively oily hair may require two applications to the scalp prior to shampooing the hair. One way to tell if the oil has been removed from the scalp is to note the foam produced by the shampoo. If the shampoo is removing large amounts of sebum, it will not foam. One can discontinue shampoo applications when the shampoo freely suds on application to the scalp.
Best Shampoo for Oily Hair
Shampoo selection is another important consideration. Shampoos are designed for a variety of hair types. Use a shampoo designed for oily hair. Oily hair shampoos have stronger detergents and fewer conditioners.
While washing be very gentle when lathering in, harsh scrubbing will encourage sebum production, but do not use a hair conditioner after shampooing (exception is when you have a long and coloured blond dry hair at the ends). Sebum is a wonderful conditioner, and additional products are not needed. Any conditioner applied to the hair will only increase the speed with which the hair appears oily.
When using conditioner, use on the ends first working your way up. It may be preferable not to use any at all near the roots of your hair, or at best a very quick, minimal coating.
Keep away from shampoo and condition in one, hot-oil treatments and frizz serums.
When styling and afterwards avoid touching, brushing and playing with your hair too much. This again stimulates oil production and spreads it through your hair.
I recommend:
Wella SP 1.7 Regulate Shampoo for Greasy Scalps 250ml
Wella SP 2.7 Regulate Tonic for Greasy Scalps 125ml
Aveda: Hair Detoxifier
Take hair detoxifier, for instance. My hair gets greasy very quickly, and I sometimes had to wash it every day, which I find it really annoying … I tried various other shampoos, and I found some shampoo, which really helped me.
Hair Detoxifier the shampoo is a beautiful transparent golden colour, and quite liquid. Massage twice onto your wet hair and then rinse each time. You will feel your hair more clean and shiny. I follow with an Aveda conditioner, mostly through the length of the hair to the ends, then I rinse with cool water (very important). Then Volumizing Tonic to add more volume in your hair and to finish, use Air Control Shine spray. Believe me, Aveda works every time. It is shiny and soft, it doesn’t feel loaded with heavy products, and can last three full days without a need to wash.
Head and Shoulders Shampoo for Greasy Hair it is good if you are looking for cheaper brands, but it is not as efficient as professional products – like Wella.
