Hair growth patterns, different types and how to manage them
If you try to fight against the natural growth of the hair, it will find its natural way in a couple of days and the whole style will then look wrong.
COW’S LICK
(when the hair flick up)
Do not try to style the hair with a fine wispy fringe coming forwards the hair will keep jumping, leaving a parting on the growth patterns. Do style the hair with a heavy fringe or asymmetrical fringe on the opposite side to weigh the jump down. Or take the hair back off the face in the direction of the jump.
WIDOW’S PEAK
The hair comes down to a point on the forehead in a ‘V’ shape.
Do not style the hair over to one side with a side parting as it will give the appearance of missing hair in the temple area. Style either with a wispy fringe coming forward or sweep the hair back off the forehead. Hair can be dressed in a middle parting if long.
DOUBLE CROWN
The hair grows in circles in different directions on the crown, causing that hair to stick up when it is short.
Do not style the hair in the opposite direction to the growth as the hair will revert back to its natural tendencies in moist conditions or within a few days.
Do style the hair in the direction of the hair growth. Use the crown to add volume and height to the hairstyle.
FLAT CROWN
The area of head of the parietal bone is flat causing the hair part between the parietal area and the crown.
Do not dress the hair forward from the crown and back below the crown. Do flick the hair up in the nape and under from the crown using large rollers or set the hair under using small rollers in flat area to add volume. Follow with a larger rollers on the crown area to blend the hair together.
